Wow, I have stayed so busy working at my kid's school doing the Falcon News broadcast project! I am amazed at how great these kids do and how much technology they are able to learn at such a young age. In fact my 5 year old son, Roman, seemed very uninterested most of the time but when I found this short video on my laptop, that he made all by himself, I decided he must enjoy it a little! How cute is this!

Falcon News

I am returning back to the school year with a new project, Falcon News!

Forest Ridge Elementary has an amazing broadcast studio right at their school. A student staff of 17 kids, grades 4th and 5th, are chosen to put on a live broadcast every week. The staff includes producers, directors, editors, reporters, anchors, camera technicians, writers and graphics staff. They do everything themselves, well with the help of a very ambitious teacher, Ms. Andeen and a parent volunteer. (me!)

We had our first live broadcast last Friday on 9-11-09. It was a great success and the kids did a wonderful job. To watch the full broadcast be sure to check out the blog at www.forestridgetv.blogspot.com!

Valentine's Day: Paper Plate Designs

I am working on some new paper plate designs for spring. I was working on a sketch for this Valentine's Day plate and my seven year old son decided to try designing his own version of a Valentine's plate! I thought it was so good that I had to post it!

The dark area of the heart is where someone has taken a giant bite out of the chocolate heart!

Kennedy Elementry: Art in Residence

I have been working in the Salem/Keizer schools with the Art in Residence program and I am having a wonderful time! These paintings are wax resist with watercolor done with the 1st graders at Kennedy Elementry. They all did such a wonderful job!

Winter Wonderland!

Their business is working to improve the health of our community through organic gardening education and nutritious food preparation instruction, thus establishing and maintaining life-long healthy eating habits.

The Zoo

It was two dollar Tuesday at the zoo and we decided to venture up to Portland. It was soooo busy and it took us a few hours to get in but when we did we had a wonderful day together! Lots of love in the air... My boys share a snow cone and the hippos just relax. Really they were fighting over that snow cone like vultures but it sure looked cute!

Summer Beach Trip!

We finally made it to the beach this summer! It was an overcast day and the ocean was freezing but the air was warm and the kids loved it!!! We even took our dog.

My Birthday!

Tomorrow is my 32nd birthday! The best present is (yah, I already opened it) a licensing agreement for my artwork; A design, "Tea for You", to be released in 2009! I am so excited to see my design in stores. Maybe next year on my birthday I will be able to eat my cake right off my own artwork!! How great does that sound! Yummy!!

As for the day the rest of the day...

I am planning on going to pick peaches with my boys and their Grandma Antzy! I hope to have a great coffee, a nice dinner and to relax with my husband and kids at the river! We have a favorite spot on the Santiam.

Drawing for Kids

Just in case you are local and would like more information about my class, Drawing for Kids...

Join other creative kids in a fun and exciting class environment. Learn to draw with imagination, observation and memory. Classes will include circle time with games and discussions to emphasise the drawing theme of the day. All supplies included!

I am teaching at the Keizer Art Association, in Keizer, OR. There are two more classes this month, August 18th & August 25th from 10 am-11:30 am. For late add-ons, it is $9 per class.

Me, Teaching!?!!

I started teaching a class called Drawing for Kids last month, this has been my first teaching experience and in all I think it's going really well! These are two drawings done by my kids, who are of course in my class, and love having Mom for a teacher. They are a part of a project I called Wild Things.

We read the book Where the Wild things Are, by Maurice Sendak. Then we talked about what makes a wild thing wild. To start the kids creative imaginations we played a game. They drew four cards. A color, a number, a shape and the last one was an emotion. They then had to use the color somehow and using the number they drew, their wild thing had to have that number eyes, arms and legs. Then they had to use their shape and try to make it show the emotion they choose.

Simon chose purple, four, rectangle and bored. See how the wild thing is sighing, That's not just purple fire!

Roman chose brown, one, triangles, and scary. I love that he added the "mom" and the heart!!!
